Somebody called me the golf cart guy at a job about ten years ago and it stuck. Now it is on the truck, on the shirts, and apparently on a sticker with a cartoon of me holding a wrench.
I did not pick it. It picked me. But it is accurate, so I have stopped fighting it.
How this started
I have been turning wrenches on carts and mowers for more than sixteen years. It started the way these things usually do, fixing things for people who knew I could fix things, and eventually there were enough of those people that it became the job.
JR's Carts and Cuts came out of that. Carts for the golf carts, cuts for the mowers. I still do both, though carts have taken over most of the calendar.
Why mobile
I do not have a shop you can drive to, and that is on purpose.
A golf cart is a genuinely annoying thing to transport. Most people do not own a trailer, and the ones who do would rather not spend a Saturday loading one up to bring it to me and then do it again to bring it home. So I bring the tools to the cart instead.
I carry the parts that cover most of what goes wrong. Motor components, controllers, fuel system parts, electrical. Most of what I get called out for gets fixed in your driveway on the first visit.
When a job genuinely needs more than that, I have a trailer and I am fully insured, so I will take the cart, do the work properly, and bring it back.
What I actually work on
All makes and models is not marketing copy in my case. Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, gas, electric, lead acid, lithium. Carts from the eighties that somebody's grandfather bought new, and carts that came off the lot last season.
Lithium conversions have become a big part of what I do. I am a dealer for Bolt Energy USA and BATTLite and I do full conversions rather than half measures.
What I care about
Doing the job right and telling people the truth about what their cart needs. I will tell you when something is not worth fixing. I will tell you when a lithium conversion does not make sense for how you use the cart. I would rather lose a sale than sell somebody something they did not need, because this valley is small and your neighbors ask you about people.
Where I go
