May is the month the rental fleet comes out of storage and gets gone through before the first booking. Eleven carts, same checklist on each.
I am writing it down because it is a decent template for your own cart, and because if you are renting from me it is worth knowing what you are getting.
Every cart, every spring
Batteries first. Water topped off to the proper level with distilled water. Terminals cleaned and protected. Every cable checked for tightness. Then a full charge and an actual load test, not a voltmeter reading on a resting pack.
A pack that reads fine sitting still and sags under load is the thing that ruins somebody's wedding, so this one gets done properly.
Tires. Pressure to spec on all four, and a look for flat spots and sidewall cracking from sitting. Tires that have gone hard get replaced rather than nursed.
Brakes. Adjusted. Cables checked for seizing. Rolled and stopped to confirm it pulls up straight.
Grease every zerk. Quick, cheap, and it is why the fleet front ends last.
Lights and horn where fitted, because a lot of rentals run into the evening.
Every fastener that matters. Seat mounts, top mounts, wheel nuts to torque. Renters treat carts differently to owners, which is fine, but it means nothing gets to be loose to start with.
Clean. Seats, floor, cargo bed. Nobody wants somebody else's mud at their wedding.
The bit that is only for rentals
Each cart gets a short shakedown drive with a load on it, up a grade if I can find one. A cart that is fine empty on flat ground and struggles with four adults on a hill is a cart I need to know about now, not on a Saturday in July.
Why you should care
If you are renting: this is why I can say the carts work. They are carts I maintain myself and I am the one who gets the call when one does not.
If you own a cart: that list is a spring service. It is not complicated and none of it is expensive compared to what it prevents. There is a full spring startup checklist in the resources section if you want to work through it yourself.
Booking
Summer weekends go early, and the six seater goes first because there is one of it. If you know you have something coming, get on the calendar now.
